Nokia Device Settings Guide

The following instructions are based on Nokia Android smartphones.

To ensure that the app can run properly in the background and that notifications or alarms work correctly, please check the following settings.

 

1. Allow Background Battery Usage

Go to:

Settings → Apps → See all apps → [App Name] → Battery / App battery usage

If the following options are available, configure them so that the app is not restricted:

• Allow background usage → Enable
• Unrestricted → Select

Menu names and available options may vary depending on the Android version.

 

2. Check Battery Optimization

Go to:

Settings → Apps → [App Name] → Battery

If Battery optimization or similar battery usage settings are available, make sure that the app's background activity is not restricted.

If available, select:

Unrestricted

If the app is set to Optimized or Restricted, its background activity may be limited.

 

3. Check Adaptive Battery

Go to:

Settings → Battery → Adaptive Battery

Adaptive Battery may limit battery usage for apps that are not used frequently.

If you experience problems with an app that needs to run continuously in the background, check whether its battery usage is being restricted.

For troubleshooting purposes, you can temporarily turn Adaptive Battery OFF and check whether the problem continues.

 

4. Check Battery Saver

Go to:

Settings → Battery → Battery Saver

If the app needs to continue running in the background, we recommend turning Battery Saver OFF.

When Battery Saver is enabled, Android may restrict background activity, network connections, and some app features.

  

5. Check Automatic Pausing of Unused Apps

On newer Android versions, go to:

Settings → Apps → [App Name] → Unused apps

If Pause app activity if unused is enabled, we recommend turning it OFF.

Android may stop unused apps from running in the background and prevent them from sending notifications.

  

6. Check Background Activity Manager (Some Older Nokia Devices)

Some older Nokia smartphones have a separate Background activity manager.

Go to:

Settings → Battery → Background activity manager

If this option is available, make sure [App Name] is allowed to run in the background or add it to the whitelist.

This setting is not available on all Nokia devices and is mainly found on some older models and Android versions.

  

If You Cannot Find These Settings

Menu names and locations may vary depending on the Nokia device model and Android version.

Try searching for the following keywords in the Settings app:

• App battery usage
• Background usage
• Unrestricted
• Battery optimization
• Adaptive Battery
• Battery Saver
• Unused apps
• Background activity manager

 

Note:  

If you experience problems with background activity, please pay particular attention to App battery usage, Unrestricted, Adaptive Battery, and Battery Saver.

On some older Nokia devices, you may also need to check Background activity manager.
